mala ged
[I.092] There, on the edge of the starchart. We can make an emergency landing there. Looks a little hot . . . but it'll have to make do.
[HAL-TEK Feed] No. Steer your course. That big red ball you're lookin' at . . . it's Mala Ged. That's where Lightbearers go to die.
overview
Mala Ged is a rogue planet in a small solar system with five other planets. The explosive nature of this planet makes it nearly impossible to sustain any lifeforms. The volcanic eruptions are too devastation and the conditions on Mala Ged change too drastically during its orbit. It goes through many-generation years of being volatile and destructive, then enters a nuclear winter where the skies are full of ash clouds and the floor is hardened to obsidian. A few localized zones on the planet allowed Atriox and his daughters, as well as the native Malamite to thrive underneath quarantined, interconnected superdomes. Deep within the crust of Mala Ged is a network of tunnels that lead to the heart of the planet, where Atriox has been utilizing the power of the Deep to commune with the denizens of the Blind Eternities. Out of the rituals begun and finished by Atriox's daughters are larvae that, when attached to a host, gives the user a permanent communion with an Emanation.
Current-day Mala Ged is home to the loathsome Wrathborne, a splinter-faction of the Seperatist Legion. It was created by Zova Irae, third daughter of Atriox, in rebellion against her sister, Gadorah. Mala Ged's Malamite inhabitants have since been enslaved by the Wrathborne, enthralled to the task of terraforming the planet as a suitable homeworld for all Wrathborne colonies. geographyHoneycombing the entire surface of Mala Ged are lava lakes that emit fumes, noxious to inhale for organics who inhale it. These fumes played tricks on the mind. Geothermal energy is used as a power source to the local Malamite tribes that dominate Mala Ged, mining ores within the magma to sell to the Corsair League for advanced weapons they could not acquire otherwise, being a type-7 on the Karshdev scale. Malamite societies are small and scattered across Mala Ged, driven by subsistence farming, foraging and hunter-gathering needs. Their technology was limited to simple hand-made tools, though through their dealings with the Corsair League, they have since acquired energy-based rifles and weapons. Mala Ged's skies are heavily affected by the breath of volcanoes on the planet, resulting in a massive magnetic field. Cyclonic-force updrafts and thermal currents create titanic lightning storms in the sky. No signals reach Mala Ged as the volcanic atmosphere leads to loss of all signals and noise respectively.
