Story and history
“At least the Separatists are honest about what they’re killing for. The Forerunners are pacifists… except in times of war. They’re teachers… except when it comes time to tell their students the truth. And when they save you, its only so you can suffer more."
--Iros Kell
After Adonai's untimely death, the Annunaki began picking factions to side with as champions and enforcers, creating tension and unease the galaxy as hostilities between the Order and Separatists began to turn into open galactic conflict. Iros Kell and several others who wished to follow a more noble path saw the factions and their conflict as a threat to safety and hope of the remnants of Annunaki-kind. Kell became a champion of both conflicts, helping to break both the power of the factions and repel the Darkness, causing many of the survivors to turn to him as a hero, while some suggested he could be a god. Kell began venturing out from the Krennoic Wreck to combat potential threats before they could strike and rescue other survivors to bring them back to Goro Va'lai. His efforts earned him the enmity of the 10th Front. Iros Kell often debated with Goro Va'lai and Cad Bane over the nature and history of the Light, which culminated in Kell's resignation in protest and his public execution. His death resulted in the resignations of hundreds in the 10th Front and Seperatist Legion, who came together to tribute Iros Kell by establishing the House of Kells--a syndicate based on the marriage of both Light and Darkness teachings. The House of Kells believed that the crux did indeed have distinct Light and Dark sides, inherently good and evil, regardless of the user's intentions. But, without one side, the other could not exist, and to truly accept the Light, both must be mastered.
kell title
"Seeing you, and other Striders, enforce your will over your fellow champions of the Light is reminiscent of the ease with which he [Iros] was said to dispatch his rivals. But you are not his equal. None are. Not Goro. Not the daughters of the Daemon. None of his "shadows" or the new breed who wear his title like a badge of honor. "Kell" means "abyss." It is an ancient tongue. Not Human. Not daemon. Just forgotten arcana—another layer of uncertainty and fear draped around a bastard to provide comfort against his sins. And so any Annunaki who truly embraces the nature of their crux will find themselves a real connection to the mantle of that dead legend [Iros]. They will take bear that vile title. They will wear his vile colors. They will challenge and even remake the infamy of his vile deeds. So, spread your unholy word, brother. Give new life to old myths. And when that hateful name Kell spreads throughout the system… his real disciples will have no choice but to confront their sins."
